BALLET

Ballet is one of the oldest forms of dance.  As a classical style of dance, ballet is highly technique based.  Beginning dancers will learn proper foundation skills and ballet terminology.  Intermediate to highest advanced level dancers will receive ballet training at Avanti under the Vaganova method.  The Vaganova method is a Russian ballet training system that emphasizes a holistic approach to movement, with the goal of building strength and flexibility while minimizing injury.

Our ballroom class incorporates multiple styles of ballroom including Cha Cha, Samba, Tango and more. This is a fun high energy style of dance.  Students will learn proper technique, quick foot work, arms and hip movement.

Both styles will focus on clean, sharp, and precision movements.  Pom uses synchronization and visual effects incorporating pom poms with stylistic dance.

CONTEMPORARY

A contemporary dance class is a dance training session that focuses on a style of dance which blends techniques from various genres like ballet, jazz, modern, and lyrical, emphasizing creative expression, improvisation, floor work, and a strong connection to the music, allowing dancers to explore movement freely while maintaining technical control and conveying emotions through their body movements; it often incorporates elements of storytelling and personal interpretation, pushing the boundaries of traditional dance forms.

COMBO CLASS

A combo dance class is a dance class that focuses on two or more styles of dance in one class. The goal of a combo dance class is to expose students to a variety of dance styles while helping them develop a foundation. Combo dance classes can include combinations of styles like: ballet and jazz, ballet and tap, hip hop and tumbling, jazz and contemporary or jazz and lyrical.

HIP HOP

Hip Hop is a dance that originally started in the 70’s and encompasses a range of streets styles and music to become what we know today as hip hop culture. Hip-hop dance classes teach a variety of moves, including chest pops, arm swings, jabs, and stomps. Students learn to move in time with the beat of the music, which is often quick-paced and requires high energy and stamina.

JAZZ

A jazz dance class focuses on jazz dance technique, which is a combination of ballet, African and Caribbean dance, hip-hop, and other contemporary dance forms. Jazz dance classes are energetic and informal, and they help dancers develop strength, flexibility, and body awareness. Jazz dance is characterized by its emphasis on syncopated rhythms, body isolations, and precision movement.

A lyrical dance class is a style of dance that focuses on expressing emotions and telling a story through movement, drawing heavily from ballet and jazz techniques, while emphasizing the interpretation of song lyrics through fluid and graceful motions, often using facial expressions and body language to convey feelings like joy, sadness, or anger; essentially, it’s a dance class where dancers aim to “translate” the lyrics of a song into movement.

MUSICAL THEATER

Musical theater dance is a style of dancing that’s rooted in the history of Broadway musicals. It’s characterized by large, bold movements that mimic the lyrics of songs to tell a story. Musical Theater dance classes teach students how to perform and dance in the musical theater style. Students learn a variety of dance styles, such as ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, and acrodance.  Students learn how to connect with the audience, tell a story through dance and facial expressions, and develop confidence on stage.

TAP

Tap dance classes typically start with a warm-up, then move on to building skills with rhythm and steps. Classes may also include learning choreography and improvisation. Tap dancing originated in the United States in the 1700s, and is a fusion of African rhythms and European footwork techniques. It became popular in the mid-19th century. There are two main types of tap dance: rhythm tap and Broadway tap. Rhythm tap focuses on musicality, while Broadway tap focuses on dance.

TECHNIQUE & TURNS

A “technique and turns” dance class focuses on refining fundamental dance technique, with a specific emphasis on learning and perfecting different types of turns, often including basic turns like pirouettes, chaine turns, and pique turns, while also incorporating proper body alignment, posture, and strength training to execute them effectively across various dance styles.
